Description
Description | Project Cheetah is an ambitious wildlife conservation project in India aimed at re-establishing the cheetah species in the country. The project involves translocating cheetahs from Africa to India, where they adapt to local conditions, reproduce, and establish a self-sustaining population. The project has recorded 49 cubs born in the last three and a half years, with a total cheetah population of 57 in India. The cheetahs have spread across nearly 5,000 square kilometres covering areas in Madhya Pradesh and parts of Rajasthan. Plans are underway to expand the programme to new habitats with mixed groups of cheetahs from South Africa, Namibia, and India. |
