Project Cypress is a direct air capture hub in north and southwest Louisiana, involving developers Heirloom and Climeworks. The project aims to capture carbon emissions and transport them for permanent underground storage, supported by Louisiana's authority to regulate Class VI injection wells. It operates under a pay-for-performance model requiring private sector investment alongside federal funding, with initial federal dollars already distributed. The project is expected to create over 1,000 construction jobs and about 80 permanent positions, with some roles offering six-figure salaries, and supports workforce training partnerships with local colleges.
