A 615-acre data center campus in Fayetteville, Georgia, codenamed "Project Excalibur," developed by Quality Technology Services (QTS) and owned by Blackstone, consumed over 29 million gallons of water without the local utility company's initial knowledge. This excessive water use caused low water pressure in the nearby community and exceeded the agreed maximum water consumption during planning. The issue was discovered after residents reported low water pressure, and it was found that one water connection was installed without the water system's knowledge and another was not billed due to account linkage issues. QTS attributed the high water use to ongoing construction, despite claiming a closed-loop cooling system that does not require water for cooling.
