Description
Description | Project Him Sarovar is an initiative launched by the Ladakh administration to build 100 village reservoirs within a year to capture and store snowmelt, rainwater, and glacial water for year-round use. The reservoirs are scientifically designed, cost-effective, and draw on traditional water conservation methods to address water scarcity in Ladakh's high-altitude cold desert. The first reservoir in Stok village near Leh stores 35 lakh litres of water and irrigates about 150 hectares of land. The project involves multiple agencies including the army, ITBP, BRO, and local communities. |
