Description
Description | Project Homekey is a California state program launched after the pandemic to quickly create new housing and get homeless people off the streets by converting existing properties such as old hotels and apartment buildings into housing. The state has spent $3.8 billion on this program, which has housed over 13,500 people at Homekey sites. The program aimed to provide rapid housing solutions at a lower cost than ground-up construction, transitioning interim housing into permanent homes. However, about half of the development projects either came in late, went over budget, or were never built. |
