Description | Orano Enrichment USA has requested a US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) license to build and operate a new Uranium enrichment facility named Project IKE near Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The facility will use gas centrifuge technology to produce up to 10 percent enriched Uranium for commercial nuclear power plants in the US, with a planned maximum target production of 7.4 million separative work units (SWUs) per year. Construction is planned to commence in 2028 upon license approval, and the facility will remain operational for 40 years. This project aims to rebuild America’s domestic nuclear fuel supply chain and reduce reliance on foreign enrichment services, particularly Russian sources. |
