Description
Description | Project Jupiter is a data center campus currently under construction in the Santa Teresa Industrial Park. The Doña Ana County Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution directing the County manager and two commissioners to seek clarification and provide updated information regarding the project. The project has faced public debate and opposition, including a lawsuit. The board previously authorized the issuance of $165 billion of Industrial Revenue Bonds in September 2025 to support development of the project. Approval was based on information from project developers about limiting impacts on local water systems through closed-loop cooling systems for the data center and associated micro-grid power plant. Recent media reports have questioned whether those systems will be used as originally described. The resolution directs county officials to communicate with developers and tenants, verify accuracy of public statements, determine if project details differ from original presentations, identify options to minimize water usage impacts, review proposed changes, and present findings in a public meeting. All construction phases remain subject to County approval through the building permit process to ensure compliance with statutes, ordinances, and codes. |
