Description

Description

Project Kusha is India's indigenous long-range air defence program spearheaded by DRDO to develop a next-generation Long-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (LRSAM) platform. It aims to deploy a layered defensive shield against various aerial threats including fighter jets, cruise missiles, UAVs, and ballistic missiles, reducing reliance on foreign systems like the Russian S-400. The project includes multiple interceptor variants (M1, M2, and M3) with ranges from 150 km to 400 km, integrated into India's national air defence network and compatible with the Integrated Air Command and Control System (IACCS). The Indian Army has joined the Indian Air Force in backing the project, marking a tri-service approach. Prototype flight trials for Kusha-M1 and M2 interceptors are scheduled for the latter half of 2026.
