The Lamminneva Solar Power Project is a large-scale renewable energy initiative aimed at repurposing a former peat extraction site in Lappajärvi, Finland, into a productive solar energy farm. This project aligns with Finland's ambitious carbon neutrality goals and the EU's broader strategy for decarbonizing the energy sector. By leveraging the existing land, the project will convert an underutilized area into a key contributor to Finland's renewable electricity mix. The project involves the construction of a 36.58 MWp solar farm, which will generate approximately 33,837 MWh of clean electricity annually. The solar power plant will consist of panel fields, inverters, transformer substations, medium-voltage cables, and a service building. The solar panels will be oriented southward at a 30° angle and installed on fixed racks arranged in rows. The project will utilize high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon PV modules and string inverters to optimize performance in Finland's climate conditions. The Lamminneva project is designed to support Finland's shift away from fossil fuels by injecting significant amounts of clean energy into the national electricity grid, thereby reducing the carbon intensity of Finland's energy mix. It also aims to demonstrate the viability of large-scale solar farms in Finland's climate and geographical conditions, paving the way for future projects. The project adheres to all eligibility conditions under the RENEWFM call, including a capacity of 36.58 MWp, a commissioning date of 30 of March 2027, and compliance with land use restrictions. The project will operate for more than 30 years after financial close and is expected to avoid approximately 2,600 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually.
