Project Marvel Sports and Entertainment District Project Financing Zone

The City of San Antonio formed a new project financing zone (PFZ) to secure better funding for the proposed Project Marvel sports and entertainment district. The PFZ allows the city to create a 3-mile zone centered around a convention center facility or venue and collect incremental state-associated hotel occupancy tax revenue over a 30-year period to fund projects within the zone. The new PFZ dissolves the previous one and designates the convention center as the sole project, including the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, the Alamodome, and the new sports arena. The PFZ funds will be accessible upon commencement of the project within five years, but the creation of the PFZ does not commit the city to funding the projects.
