Project Pegasi is an elevated freight bridge and shuttle system at the U.S.-Mexico border in Laredo, Texas, designed to reduce congestion, fraud, emissions, and inefficiencies by moving 2,500 diesel hybrid shuttles in platoons between Monterrey, Mexico, and Laredo. The project includes shuttles, lifts for containers or trailers, and a guideway, with prototypes for each element to be built within six months. A 2-mile test track with an S-curve will be completed by late 2026 for testing the shuttles. The project is estimated to cost between $6 billion and $10 billion and will be financed by a combination of debt and equity, primarily from infrastructure funds. Manufacturing will take place in Texas or Nuevo Leon, Mexico, and the project includes inland terminals and inspection facilities.
