Description

Description

Project Ruby is a proposed hyperscale data center to be located on 865 acres of land bordering Harris and Talbot Counties in Georgia. The project is expected to create nearly 200 jobs. The Unofficial Data Center Overlay Committee, tasked by the Columbus City Council, is addressing local concerns about water usage, power, noise, and the definition of 'hyperscale'. The committee found that the maximum daily water usage of 330,000 gallons is well within the permitted draw from the Chattahoochee River. Noise concerns involve low vibrations measured in C-weighted decibels, which are not mitigated by current sound regulations. The committee recommends pre-construction acoustic modeling and rules to control noise. Energy costs for locals are expected not to increase due to requirements by the Georgia Public Service Commission. Air pollution was not examined in the review but was raised as a concern at a City Council meeting.
