Project Sunrise Ultra Long Range Aircraft

Qantas is introducing 12 specially configured Airbus A350-1000 ULR aircraft to operate the world's longest commercial flights, connecting Australia's east coast cities Melbourne and Sydney non-stop to London and New York. The aircraft feature an additional 20,000-litre rear centre fuel tank and enhanced onboard systems to enable ultra-long-haul travel. The cabin design is based on medical and scientific research to maximize passenger comfort and wellbeing, including a wellbeing zone, customised lighting, and carefully timed meal service. The first aircraft is on the Airbus assembly line in France and is scheduled for delivery in late 2026, with commercial services commencing in the first half of 2027.
