Description | Project Washington is a proposed data center in Delaware, planned to be the largest in the state. It consists of 11 two-story data center buildings with electrical fields on two large land parcels north of Delaware City. The project includes 516 backup generators with diesel fuel tanks to provide backup power in case of outages. The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) prohibited the project citing violation of the 1971 Coastal Zone Act, which restricts heavy industrial projects in the coastal zone. The developer, Starwood Digital Ventures, appealed the decision, but the Coastal Zone Industrial Control Board upheld DNREC's prohibition in March 2026. |
