Prometheus Hyperscale, a Wyoming-based data center developer, plans to build two large AI data centers with a combined capacity of 1.2 gigawatts each, located in Evanston and Casper, Wyoming. The total investment for these projects is $30 billion, making it one of the largest private investments in Wyoming. The project aims to leverage Wyoming's abundant energy resources, including natural gas, solar, wind, and potentially small modular nuclear reactors, to power the data centers. The company plans to generate most of its own power through a behind-the-meter island solution and use a proprietary geothermal cooling system that recycles water in a closed loop to minimize water usage. The project also includes an educational pipeline to train local workers and retain young talent in Wyoming. Prometheus has notable backers including In-Q-Tel, the venture capital arm investing on behalf of U.S. intelligence agencies.
