Description
Description | Promoting and Expanding Deaf Journalism in Europe through Sign Languages (DJE) A project aiming to enhance the tools and skills of Deaf journalists in Europe and to create joint investigative articles about aspects of the Deaf community (legislation, education, employment, etc.) This project links to Priority 2 of the call (Promote collaborative journalism projects), but also touches the other priority to develop a business model for news organisations. In this consortium we are with six project partners from six different countries: Turkoois (coordinating organisation) (NL), Média’Pi! (FR), Taubenschlag (DE), Teckenbrö (SE) and Visual Box (BE). We will conduct various activities which link to the project objectives which are: • To produce news in accessible formats in sign languages • To enhance the skills of Deaf journalists • To disseminate good practises and solutions to organisations inside and outside the consortium from Deaf to non-Deaf news media organisations Our main target group are Deaf people coming from the partner countries, but also reaching out to other Deaf people in Europe, which is approximately 1 million Deaf people in total. These Deaf people use a national sign language, of which there are 31 in the European Union. In this project the following languages are used: written English, Dutch, German, Italian, French and Swedish and signed Dutch, Flemish, German, French and Swedish, accompanied with International Sign. Results will be disseminated amongst countries which do not have set up a news organisation for the Deaf yet, and amongst established news organisations (we aim to reach in total 30 affiliated organisations) which should provide better access to Deaf people. Results are for example a training module, standards in video, presentation and ethics, business model and survey data. |
