Description

Description

The aim of the project is to improve food security in Lebanon by structurally strengthening key players in the Lebanese agricultural sector. UNDP is the recipient and sponsor of the project. The first component of the project is intended to contribute to local, labor-intensive and, in the long term, self-sustaining production of wheat through high-quality, climate-resilient and inexpensive seed through strategic support of the Lebanese Agricultural Research Institute (LARI), increase yields and income for wheat farmers and increase the supply of high-quality wheat in Lebanon and, in particular in the event of further tightening of import conditions in Lebanon, contribute to greater resilience and lower food inflation. The second component supports these measures with targeted support for wheat farmers and MSMEs in the value chain. Strategic elements of the second component, including with a view to possible follow-up phases, are a comprehensive analysis of the wheat value chain and a pilot component to promote innovative approaches to the local production of agricultural inputs.
