Description
Description | "Health Action International’s work for 2024 will focus on three different, but interlinked, themes, building on its work under HADEA in 2023 (PHRAME) (project #101124626): 1) Equitable Access to Affordable Medicines - We will undertake advocacy, awareness raising and research interventions to obtain support for sustainable pharmaceutical policy, promote greater transparency in prices and costs of medicinal products, and encourage the use of (and public discussion on) health-oriented intellectual property (IP) management tools, particularly TRIPS Flexibilities. Our goal in doing so is to improve equitable access to safe, effective, affordable medicines, even in times of crisis. 2) Artificial Intelligence and Health - We will conduct advocacy with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and European Commission to develop adequate provisions for health sector technology in new and existing regulatory frameworks, share information with civil society about the regulatory implications and gaps for the health sector, monitor the activities of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) on their road towards more data-driven decision making. We will do so in order to raise greater awareness of the specific risks AI poses in healthcare. 3) Democratisation of Medicines Policy - Recognizing the essential role that civil society and media play in EU policy-making processes, we will implement an array of activities that ensure that other civil society actors have the resources and ability to take part in the delivery of the EU4Health Programme policy objectives, as well as engage in public discussions or political deliberations that shape the EU health and medicines agenda, and protect against harms of AI in healthcare." |
