Promoting solar energy in Honduras through the Mexican development bank Bancomext

The aim of the EUR 40 million development loan to the Mexican state development bank Bancomext is to increase the country's electricity generation capacity and diversify away from fossil fuels by providing long-term financing for a solar photovoltaic power plant in Honduras. It is also intended to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions in electricity generation. The project is in line with the focus of German development cooperation on supporting Mexico as an emerging country and anchor country for the Central American region in financing regional projects in the field of renewable energies. This is the fifth development loan that Bancomext has concluded with KfW in the field of renewable energies and the first example of innovative South-South cooperation.
