Description

Description

The aim of the FC project is to provide more and better trained specialists for the health sector by setting up and expanding high-quality training and further education in the member states of the EAC (FC program goal). This is intended to improve the health care systems and the health situation of the population. The immediate target group is nurses and midwives. The recipient of the program is the EAC, and the sponsor is the Aga Khan University (AKU). The AKU aims to train highly qualified nurses and midwives who will take on a leadership position in their professional lives and serve as role models, be it in health care, training, professional organizations or health administration. The alumni are intended to act as multipliers, advance quality in the health systems and also make a contribution to making the nursing and midwifery profession more attractive. The measures of the FZ program include the construction and renovation of two university buildings and a student residence, as well as their equipment for nursing and midwife training (infrastructure component). In addition, existing part-time training programs are to be extended to rural areas, two new study programs are to be developed and set up, and the implementation of targeted, practical short training courses is to be expanded. A study financing program is also to be designed. A key result is also to be the EAC-wide harmonization of study programs and degrees (academic component). The total cost of the project is EUR 27.2 million, of which the FZ contribution (subsidy) amounts to EUR 17.2 million from regional funds (EUR 10 million, commitment in 2011 / EUR 7.2 million, commitment in 2012 (VPT). The AKU's own contribution amounts to EUR 10 million.
