Description

Description

The PRIDE proposal will enable the European Network on Independent Living - ENIL to implement its Strategic Plan 2026 - 2029, with a view of advancing the right of persons with disabilities in Europe to live independently and be included in the community. The proposal combines advocacy activities, practical support, capacity building, awareness raising and dissemination activities, implemented jointly with ENIL members and allies. Its aim is to address the long-standing barriers to independent living, such as the lack of personal assistance and other community-based services, persistent segregation, lack of housing, accessibility, and discriminatory attitudes and stigma experienced by persons with disabilities. Moreover, the proposal seeks to tackle more recent challenges, such as climate change, budgetary cuts and deteriorating human rights in many countries. This is done through an intersectional lens, to ensure that no individual or group is left behind. The PRIDE proposal will build on achievements of the past decade, through the European Strategy on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2021 - 2030 and before, and will promote the EU values within the EU and broader. By making ENIL stronger as a network and an expert on independent living, the PRIDE proposal will put us in a position to support the European Commission in implementing the second stage of ESRPD, the Social Rights Pillar and the recommendations of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, among other. It will allow ENIL to assist our members, other organisations of persons with disabilities, national governments, service providers and other stakeholders in making Europe a better, more inclusive, place to live for all persons with disabilities and an example for other countries and parts of the world to follow.
