Description
Description | Core problem The majority of Malian smallholder farmers practice resource-degrading farming methods and are therefore particularly exposed to the negative effects of climate change. Additional external shocks such as the COVID 19 pandemic or the drop in prices of export products on international markets illustrate the limits of one-sided cultivation methods and insufficient diversification. Module objective The sustainability and resilience of smallholder agriculture in rain-fed agriculture, which is particularly affected by climate change, is improved through responsible agroecological and soil and water conservation use of resources. Key outputs A strategy for the integrated promotion of agroecological approaches and soil and water conservation (SWC) measures; various adapted forms of knowledge transfer; local supply of seeds, bioinputs and agricultural equipment; implementation of investment measures for erosion protection and other agroecological measures so that agricultural production is increasingly oriented towards agroecological practices. Target group The target group is around 1,200 small family farms and MSMEs in the Kayes, Koulikoro and Sikasso regions. Women and young people are to be given special support. A total of around 20,000 people will initially benefit directly from the measures - more will follow if things go well. Contribution to the national implementation of Agenda 2030 The project makes an essential contribution to SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 1 (Zero Poverty) of Agenda 2030. In addition, the focus on structurally disadvantaged population groups contributes to SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). The agroecological approach also addresses SDG 12 (Sustainable Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land). |
