Description
Description | Ghanaian small and micro enterprises in the informal sector have so far had only very limited financial and economic participation in the vocational training system. The program to promote vocational training in Ghana is part of the German-Ghanaian development cooperation priority area of sustainable economic development and aims to improve access to needs-based vocational training and to promote decent employment. Key measures to achieve the goal are short courses subsidized by FC funds, the introduction of dual training and the Competency Based Training (CBT) approach for the informal sector. The project is intended to promote competition between existing training providers based on the criterion of quality/market fairness. Training providers are given incentives to adapt the quality and quantity of training and further education offers to the needs of companies. The project's partners are the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET), selected training institutes and professional associations. The target group are owners, apprentices and workers of small and micro enterprises in the informal sector who have so far had no access to formal vocational training. Phase II of the FC project will initially be limited to the four regions of Greater Accra, Volta, Northern Region and Ashanti and the five professional fields of building construction, automotive repairs, consumer electronics, garment/tailoring/dress making and beauty/cosmetics. Phase II begins parallel to Phase I in November 2018 and is expected to be completed in October 2021. With total costs of EUR 11.5 million, the FC contribution amounts to EUR 10.0 million. The Ghanaian government's own contribution is EUR 1.0 million, and that of the course participants around EUR 0.5 million. |
