Description
Description | A lack of income and employment prospects is a major challenge in the MENA region. This is also the case in Jordan, with an official youth unemployment rate of 45% (3rd quarter 2023). This is due to cultural values and the predominantly poor quality of training at vocational schools. Young, employable people have fewer opportunities for economic participation and employment, while the private sector suffers from a shortage of qualified workers. The measure is a second phase that closely complements the first phase (see 37524). The aim is to increase the attractiveness of vocational training and thus contribute to a rethinking process among the population of Jordan, where academic training has previously been considered the training path to be pursued. Phase I envisages i) the construction and equipment of a new vocational school (CAVT Campus), based on the design of the renowned Al Hussein Technical University (HTU), and ii) the repair, upgrading and provision of modernised training courses in selected areas of two public vocational schools in Irbid for their long-term integration under CAVT. Phase II (consisting of 40425 and 43022) will continue to support the HTU and its sister institution CAVT, which acts as the implementation arm, in acting as Jordanian lighthouse institutions for labour market-oriented vocational training and drivers of reform in the vocational training sector in Jordan. In Phase II, the approach will be expanded to include five additional vocational schools spread across Jordan. Repair, upgrading and a modernised training offer in selected areas will pave the way for long-term integration under the umbrella of CAVT in order to help practice-oriented and high-quality vocational training achieve a nationwide breakthrough. |
