Description
Description | The project Promoting Vocational Training in Ghana, Phase III is part of the German-Ghanaian development cooperation priority area of training and sustainable growth for good jobs. The aim of the project is to establish a centre of excellence for green technologies at the Kumasi Technical Institute, Ghana. The FC module is also intended to improve access for Ghanaian young people and skilled workers to needs-oriented and high-quality training and further education opportunities in professional fields that are relevant to a green economy. A FC contribution of EUR 5 million (budget grant) is available for the construction of the necessary building infrastructure and the equipment and installation of workshops and classrooms. The Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) is the project sponsor. Background The state vocational training system is currently not in a position to train skilled workers to the extent and quality that the labour market requires. The young population that is entering the Ghanaian labour market largely has only very inadequate labour market-relevant skills. The inadequate involvement of the private sector in state vocational training hinders companies' access to skilled workers who have been trained according to their needs. As a result, this hinders the innovation and growth of Ghanaian companies, and thus their potential to contribute to inclusive economic growth. The immediate target group of the FC module is young women and men and skilled workers from different social classes and with different educational qualifications. Intermediary beneficiaries are the management and teaching staff at the KTI, the teaching staff in the partner companies and staff from CTVET. The indirect target group is companies that benefit from better qualifications of the graduates they support. |
