Proposed AI Data Center Annexation in Niles

moratorium

The City of Niles announced it will take no further action regarding a proposed annexation request for a proposed AI data center. Developer Whitetail Creek LLC (Bitdeer) submitted the request seeking to bring property from Weathersfield Township into the City of Niles for the development of a data center. However, Bitdeer has not submitted a formal petition to annex, zoning and building permit plans, or a utility use application. The City of Niles will continue with a moratorium, pausing any future data center permitting while specific data center zoning is explored. The decision reflects concerns and feedback from residents and neighboring communities, determining that moving forward with the annexation request is not in the best interest of the community at this time.
