Hyundai E&C builds skyline of office town in Singapore Frasers Tower is standing tall in a central business district in Singapore, about 20 minutes by car from Changi Airport. Hyundai E&C received the Frasers Tower project from Frasers Property Aquamarine Trustee, a member of the Frasers Property Group, to build the office building at Cecil Street.The Frasers Tower project is to construct an office building of 38 floors above ground and three basement levels with approximately 78,000 square meters of total floor area. The total construction cost is estimated at 200 million dollars, or about 225.5 billion won. A range of F&B facilities will be located on the first to third floors, and offices on the fifth floor and above. The new building will also have various types of gardens such as parks, terraces and rooftop gardens.The biggest challenge facing the construction site was to meet the tight construction schedule. From the beginning, the client put greater emphasis on completing the project within the construction schedule. However, the island state is well known for its tight regulations on construction works. What’s worse, as the construction site was located very next to a top-notch residence building, the city’s notoriously stringent regulations on noise control made it almost impossible to work on Sunday and holidays. To advance the construction schedule in all fields of construction, the builder embarked on a variety of construction methods.Hyundai E&C took a semi top-down approach for basement construction, which allowed the builder to secure structural stability and spaces for above ground construction. It also applied the auto climbing system (ACS) to install elevator structures and looked to post tension applications to build frames, leading to increasing constructability and reducing construction period.Taking into consideration the fact that the city state requires ever stricter construction supervision, the construction site made efforts to conduct rigorous inspections. The builder had to achieve prior approval from architects with regard to all construction processes. For example, in the case of concrete placement, it was not allowed to exceed the time limit by even five minutes. Thanks to the elaborated quality criteria agreed with supervisors and architects, however, the builder could obtain unparalleled construction quality.Safety management was flawless as well. All workers strived to serve as a safety manager by sharing even trivial safety issues with each other through a mobile messenger. The construction site held daily tool box meetings (TBM) and weekly safety meetings in order to identify risk factors and deal with them.
