PROtect Integrity Responsibly focuses on promoting integrity and values in sport, by educating athletes on responsible gambling practices and, therefore, combating competition manipulation in sport by preventing unethical behaviour. EU Athletes (project coordinator), EPIC (gambling harm prevention consultancy) and 8 player associations representing 5 European countries (Denmark, France, Italy, Ireland, Spain) and 5 main team sports (basketball, futsal, handball, rugby, volleyball) compose the project consortium. During the two years, education on the topic of gambling harm prevention will be delivered by player associations to at least 5,500 athletes in Europe. To maximize the impact of education, both online and face-to-face methods will be applied. The novel practice of training player association staff to equip them with transferable knowledge and skills will be introduced. The project partners will furthermore use innovative approaches in delivery of education to players with digital means, dissemination of the project and cooperation among the partners. There are 4 project stages: 1. Research on developing education on the topic of gambling harm prevention 2. Development of educational materials for players, including Online Learning Module and Educational Infographics 3. Implementation of education with Train the Observer workshop for player associations staff and face-to-face team visits to educate the players 4. Evaluation of education and development of recommendations Through the whole duration, the project will be widely disseminated to reach target groups beyond professional and elite level athletes directly involved in the project. PROtect Integrity Responsibly is a continuation of over a decade of successful EU Athletes work in fight against match-fixing and corruption in sport. This project will make sure to expand on previous projects outcomes as well as cooperate with other Erasmus+ projects and national and international stakeholders.
