Description
Description | The project aims to improve the protection of biodiversity - taking into account the effects of climate change - in the Eastern Sierra Madre, in volcanic mountain ranges, the coastal plain and the Gulf of Mexico. The region is considered one of the most important biodiversity hotspots in Mexico. The FC project plans to strengthen fourteen protected areas through investments in infrastructure, equipment and institutional capacities. A contribution to a capital fund will secure the financing of the running costs of the protected areas in the long term. The target group of the project is 30,000 people who live in the areas. The project combines the classic strengthening of nature reserves with measures to develop sustainable financing instruments for Mexico's federal protected area system. The recipient is the Mexican nature conservation fund Fondo Mexicano para la Conservación de la Naturaleza - FMCN. The total investment volume amounts to EUR 40.17 million, of which EUR 15 million is FC funds (grants), which were divided into two contracts. |
