Description | Sector Protection of the environment and natural resources Core problem The expansion of agriculture and livestock farming, increasing development through mining and infrastructure combined with inadequate management of natural resources are leading to the loss of ecologically important habitats and a particular threat to biodiversity. Module objective Projects implemented by civil society organizations contribute to the preservation of particularly biodiverse areas (KBAs) in the tropical Andes of Ecuador. Direct target group The rural population of the KBAs, who benefit from the sustainable use of natural resources and the preservation of their livelihoods. Indirect target group Civil society organizations that are strengthened. Indirect target group The population of the Andean region, who benefit from the provision of ecosystem services. Recipient/project sponsor Conservation International as sponsor of the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund Key outputs A The protection and participatory management of the prioritized KBAs has improved. B The living conditions of the local population in the prioritized KBAs and corridors have improved. C The participation of local actors (local authorities, indigenous communities and the private sector) in the protection of biodiversity has increased. D The capacities of civil society organisations implementing projects to preserve biodiversity have been improved. Total costs EUR 8.0 million. FC grant EUR 7.0 million. |
