Description
Description | After outbreaks of violence in Myanmar in 2017, Rohingya refugees fled to neighboring Bangladesh, where, according to current figures, 965,467 refugees live in 33 overcrowded camps in the impoverished Coxs Bazar district, which is not protected against natural disasters, and on the island of Bhasan Char. Due to Bangladesh's restrictive refugee policy, these refugees are completely dependent on international aid. This project contributes to improving the well-being, protection, resilience and gender equality of children and young people in the Rohingya camps and the host communities. To achieve this, 1) girls and boys from the host communities and the Rohingya camps will be given equal access to high-quality formal education and vocational training and further education opportunities, 2) access to child and youth protection services to prevent and remedy all forms of violence, including gender-based violence, will be promoted, and 3) behaviour change measures will be financed to reduce discriminatory (gender-based) norms and practices as well as violence against children and young people. The measures are intended to reach a total of 60,852 Rohingya refugees and vulnerable members of the host communities bordering the camps directly and 701,436 people indirectly. The recipient and project sponsor is UNICEF Bangladesh, which is implementing the measures with a total funding volume of 10 million euros. |
