Description

Description

The port of Liepaja lies on the Eastern coast of the Baltic Sea and by handling ~ 7 million tons per annum is a part of the comprehensive TEN-T network. Upgrading of the port’s infrastructure will strengthen the European transport network and improve safe, sustainable, and efficient connections within the European Union (EU) and with the neighbouring countries. The development of the port’s infrastructure as the part of the TEN-T network plays a significant role in the enhancement of internal market accessibility through improved maritime transport services and increases the efficiency of transportation, as well as it is important for external accessibility. The objective of the Project is to provide safe berthing of Ro-Ro ferries in the port of Liepaja, thus, strengthening TEN – T infrastructure’s capacity and enhancing internal and external markets accessibility through improved maritime transport links. Project envisages to improve navigation safety of Ro-Ro ferries calling the port of Liepaja by rebuilding of an existing pier No. 46, where Ro-Ro traffic is served, by adding two mooring dolphins and increasing design water depth from minus 10.5 down to the minus 12.0 m. To accommodate newest state-of-the-art Ro-Ro/ Ro-Pax ferries, there will be installed 0.4 kV electricity power supply system for the “cold ironing”, as well as stationary wastewater reception facility. If rebuilt, pier No. 46 will allow simultaneous mooring of two Ro-Ro/ Ro-Pax ferries with the maximum length (LOA) up to 240.0 meters and draft down to the minus 11.0 meters.
