The general objective is to prioritise and apply the concept of sustainable risk where the protection of the population (current and future) is one of the major objectives that involves taking into account the possibilities of development and the sustainability of the choices made. This objective can be achieved through the development of a common cross-border culture in the field of natural risk assessment in mountain areas taking into account environmental and climatic aspects and socio-economic and systemic factors. A fundamental role is played by the implementation and long-term management of observation and process monitoring networks on the territory. Financial and socio-political support for research and study on the interactions between the cryosphere and risks will be a key factor in filling gaps in the knowledge and management of adaptation actions by local communities.
