Description
Description | Phase II of the Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal (BMCT) at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) was inaugurated, doubling the terminal's handling capacity to 4.8 million TEUs. The expansion includes 2,000 metres of continuous quay length for simultaneous berthing of multiple mega-container vessels, spread across 200 hectares with multimodal infrastructure. The project was built under a public-private partnership model with an investment of SGD 1.7 billion ($1.3 billion), marking the largest FDI from Singapore into India. The terminal is linked to the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) with six DFC-compatible rail tracks, enhancing multimodal logistics efficiency. The project also emphasizes sustainability with electrical equipment powered by renewable energy and plans to electrify diesel-powered assets. |
