Description
Description | The proposed project will support the Government of Turkiye to scale-up renewable energy use in the public sector by focusing on central government and municipal facilities. The project will contribute to expanding the distributed renewable energy market and help demonstrate leadership in the public sector to use sustainable energy solutions to deliver on the country's climate mitigation commitment and enhance energy security. The project includes four components: (i) Component 1- Renewable energy investments in central government facilities, to be implemented by MoEUCC; (ii) Component 2 - Renewable energy investments in municipalities, to be implemented by ILBANK, (iii) Component 3 - Technical assistance and implementation support, to be implemented by both MoEUCC and ILBANK, and (iv) Contingent Emergency Response Component. The operation supports achieving a key objective of the Turkiye Country Partnership Framework (CPF, 11096-TR) for the FY18-23 period. Improving the reliability of Turkiye’s energy supply and generation of green energy continue to be among the key priorities of the energy sector cooperation between the Bank and the government of Turkiye, as articulated under the CPF Focus Area 3 – Sustainability. The proposed Project will contribute to all three objectives under this focus area: i) Objective 7, Improved reliability of energy supply and generation of green energy, ii) Objective 8 – Improved sustainability of resilience of cities by promoting more sustainable energy choices in central government and municipal buildings; and iii) Objective 9: Strengthened results under climate action agenda through delivering climate mitigation impacts by scaling up RE. It is expected that the Project will also be fully aligned with the next CPF for the FY24-28 period, which, building on Turkiye’s CCDR and the upcoming new Systematic Country Diagnostics, will continue to support Turkiye in achieving its climate neutrality and sustainable development objectives. |
