Description

The Punjab government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has implemented a comprehensive border security initiative along its 553-kilometer international border. The project includes the procurement and deployment of nine state-of-the-art anti-drone systems capable of detecting drones within a 10-kilometer radius and locating their operators. Additionally, the project involves installing 3,000 AI-enabled CCTV cameras (2,300 activated) to monitor suspicious activities, forming 19,523 Village Defense Committees for public vigilance, and deploying 5,000 Home Guards equipped with modern training and equipment. The government has allocated a special budget of ₹110 crore for border security and an additional ₹40 crore for border development projects including CCTV expansion, vehicle procurement, and checkpoint construction. The Punjab Police has also established 100 checkpoints every 5 kilometers along the border to enhance surveillance and reduce illegal activities such as drug trafficking, arms smuggling, and drone infiltration.
