Description | The Punjab government has increased canal irrigation coverage from 26.5% in 2022 to 78%, with expectations to reach 86% before the paddy transplantation season in 2026. Investments of ₹6,700 crore have been made since April 2022 on canal lining, repair, modernisation, and strengthening of infrastructure. Revival of seasonal streams and restoration of old canal systems have increased water flow and irrigation capacity, including an upgrade to the Sirhind Canal increasing its capacity by 2,844 cusecs. |
