Description
Description | The proposed project is a pilot project that has been in planning stages since April 2016 and would be ready to launch, depending on funding approval, in May of 2017. As it is a pilot, we would be entering phase 1 of the transit system mid-2017. The current route that has been selected has been chosen through various public consultations sessions led by the Economic Development Department. The project came to be realised by the Economic Development Board as a response to the success of the Bike Share program as an active mode of public transportation and due to the newly constructed seniors’ complex. This public transit system would expand services from our current handi-transportation service, to members of the community who are not disabled but require methods of transportation around town outside of the summer months (bike share can only run during the summer). The main objectives of the project are: 1) To provide a scheduled transit service for the urban core of Cochrane 2) Increase mobility for aging population 3) Increase mobility for youth 4) Reduce our carbon footprint and maintain Council’s strategic direction to plan around people and not cars. The scope of this project will look at implementing the scheduled transit service, specifically, this funding program will help purchase the bus (capital asset) to implement the transit service later in 2017. |
