These cars will run on the system's 'B' division and are designed similarly to the R211 cars. Funded through the MTA's $68 billion 2025-2029 Capital Plan, the new cars will support the conversion to modern Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling, allowing more frequent and reliable train service. Kawasaki Rail Car, Inc. will deliver the cars starting in Fall 2028, with all cars delivered by 2030. The new cars will replace aging R68 and R68A cars and feature modern amenities such as more accessible seating, brighter lights, and clearer signage. |
