Description

Description

The project is based on the idea of the purifying power of literature and brings together 10 high quality literary works from 10 European countries, which will contribute to the diversity of the literature on the Bulgarian market. The books are filled with strong emotions, pain and suffering, hopelessness and insight, but also a desire for renewal and a thirst for life. These are works that have critically acclaimed literary merit and have won or been nominated for major national and European awards. These books have that magic of good literature that subdues the readers and compels them to empathize and suffer, to be spiritually purified, to find correspondences with their own feelings and experiences, and to be prompted to make positive changes in their lives. Almost all of the 10 books were written in little-used languages and belong to national literatures that are underrepresented to the reading public in our country. The package includes books by authors from Cyprus, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Finland, Ukraine, Norway, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Greece and France. Among them are four winners of the EULP (Lana Bastašić, Shpëtim Selmani, Nikos Chryssos and Sophie Daull) and two nominees for the same prize (Constantia Soteriou and Brajan Sukaj). Anja Portin, Aнна Багряна, Maja Lunde and Владимир Плавевски have received prestigious national literary awards. Translating, publishing and promoting these books with a wide European reach will generate new audiences and expand existing ones, with a special focus on refugees from Ukraine who have sought asylum in Bulgaria.
