Description | The Maryland Transit Administration has expanded live-wire testing for the Purple Line light rail project into Montgomery County, marking a transition from physical system construction to safety and operational testing. Trains operate overnight on approximately 2.5 miles of dedicated track between Lyttonsville and Bethesda. This phase tests system functionality including track integrity, electrical systems, braking, signals, acceleration, communications, and periodic horn and bell tests. The project is about 90% complete and expected to begin service by the end of 2027. |
