Description

Description

Bordering settlements exist in a relatively separate state on the two sides of the border, mostly due to the small number of border crossing points. This makes the use of automobiles a necessity, which is expensive and harmful to the environment. The cycle paths realized in the project make routes shorter and enable bycicle tarnsport with little effort between settlements. In a secondary effect the project helps solve unemployment problems by improving relationships and developing tourism thus contributing to new business activities and jobs. Most of the old dirt roads built in the first half of the past century are now inadequate for transport, overgrown with flora and full of potholes, even impassable at many points. Pavemented roads require renewal (new tarmac) and repair (filling potholes) in some cases. The project enables these to support cyclist traffic. The stabilization of 14.19 km-s of old dirt road, renewal of a 0.9 km long gravel-stabilized dirt road, complete renewal of 5.5 km-s of asphalt road , repair of 1.35 km-s of asphalt road, with full signposting and establishing 2 resting places are results of the project.
