The present project addresses EU Studies while making teachers familiar with the objectives and functioning of the EU, the concept of active citizenship and core values such as freedom, tolerance and non-discrimination. One part is devoted to misleading information on the EU (truth or fake) and prejudices arising from that and the second extensive part involves politics of the EU. By partaking in this project, teachers in schools will develop new skills. In order to develop their teaching skills in the field of the European Union, we will aim to work with their learning, analytical and critical thinking skills. Together with the underlying attitude of civic-mindedness, democratic values and knowledge of politics, human rights, history and media, they will build a basis for better mediating the knowledge of the EU to pupils. With the team, comprised of senior and junior experts, coming from different areas and with different experiences, we aim to implement a project to boost up EU-readiness of Slovenian teachers, pupils and headmasters. With the direct work in schools, we believe to unleash more potential than every other similar activity in this country. We follow the Erasmus+ priorities of Inclusion and Diversity, Digital Transformation, Environment and fight against climate change. But above all, our main priority is Participation in Democratic Life. Slovenian school policy has recognized the need to implement obligatory subject on citizenship education in vocational secondary schools but unfortunately failed. One third of Slovenian pupils over 15 doesn’t receive any citizenship education at all. In other fields of primary and secondary education, we also see shortcomings, we believe at least partially to overcome with our approach. In our three-year project, we will develop, test and integrate methods and approaches to mediate EU contests with headmasters, teachers and pupils.
