Qitaihe Water Project

In 2001, the China Water Company was awarded a greenfield contract for a plant with a treatment capacity of 20,000 tons per day as well as the construction of a new plant with a capacity of 10,000 tons per day in Qitaihe City, Heilongjiang Province. To implement the contract, a joint-venture project company was formed by CWC and the state-owned Qitaihe Water Company (exact shares were undisclosed). As of 2002, CWC itself was owned by Thames Water (a subsidiary of RWE) (48.8%) and Sime Darby Bhd. of Malaysia (33.3%). The first stage began supplying water in May 2002 and the second stage was commissioned in January 2003. No information was publically available concerning contract term or investment commitments.
