Quality improvement of Intra-EU trade data in the context of the micro-data exchange

MDE represents the most innovative technical feature of the modernised system for international trade in goods statistics (ITGS) because it creates an additional data source by re-using existing statistical information. Exchange of micro-data for intra-EU exports of goods can become the data source for the quality improvement of the collected data on intra-EU imports. For international trade statistics cross- country data comparability is an important issue, that is why it is recommended to regularly monitor the asymmetries and periodically conduct reconciliation exercises for products with significant shares in trade values. The overall objective of the action is to pave the way towards integrating exchanged micro- data in the compilation process of Intra- EU import for improving quality of data collected on national level. The specific objective of the project is to carry out asymmetry studies, in the MDE context and identify the exact causes of the asymmetry.
