Description
Description | Design and Construction: These projects will provide safe crossings for pedestrians along an urban parkway with very few controlled crossings, and posted traffic speeds of 60km/hr. The Queen Elizabeth Driveway now forms a barrier for pedestrians between Commissioners Park or Lansdowne Park and the Rideau Canal Eastern Pathway. The crossing points will be enhanced by deploying the newly-approved pedestrian crossing facility. These projects provide pedestrian and cycling links from the Glebe Community and Lansdowne Park (a major event centre) along a low-stress pedestrian and cycling route to the Carling Trillium Line LRT Station, Carling Transit Priority Corridor and Bank St. transit connections. Other related works if/where possible may include but not necessarily be limited to connections between pedestrian/cycling locations and transit system locations. An example may be supporting 40-foot diesel bus acquisition in relation to routes in the proximity of the Queen Elizabeth Drive works to aid pedestrian and cycling traffic connectivity to the bus network. The expanded project activities are intended to further the City’s ability to advance safer community active transportation / transit priorities by leveraging the remaining program funding allocation as much as possible. This is consistent with Council’s strategic direction. |
