Description

In June 2002, the Peruvian company S&Z Asociados S.A. was granted the right to build and operate a hydro power plant located in the Quitaracsa River, province of Huaylas. The power plant was named Central Hidroelectrica Quitaracsa (112 MW). In December 2007, the concession rights was acquired by the Peruvian company Atacocha, and in March 2009 Enersur S.A., a subsidiary of the French company GDF Suez, acquired 100% of the shares of the project company created to manage the project, Empresa de Generacion Electrica Quitaracsa SA. The license was awarded by the Federal regulators to Enersur in April 2010. The sponsor committed to invest US$ 365 million in the construction of the power plant. Enersur signed long-term power purchase agreements with distribuition companies to sell the electricity produced in the power plant in April 2010. In February 2011, the EPC contract was signed with Constructora JME, while the equipment supply contract was signed with Consorcio Rainpower (Rainpower Norway AS, Rainpower Peru and STE Energy). As of November 2014, 82% of the construction works were concluded. Operations were expected to begin in April 2015.
