Description | The R train service between Brooklyn and Manhattan is set to return soon after being disrupted by Superstorm Sandy. The service has been operating in two disconnected sections due to damage to the East River tunnel, which was filled with salt water damaging electrical equipment. The restoration will happen in phases, first extending service south from 34th Street to Rector Street, then through the East River tunnel. The J and Z trains, which share signal components with the R train, will also be extended when the R service resumes. The Whitehall Street Station remains flooded and out of service, and the South Ferry Station suffered severe damage requiring months of repairs. |
