Description | The Race Street Corridor is an important gateway for the City of Port Angeles, and one of the City’s most active arterials. Through grant funding, the City will soon begin constructing the initial phase of a two-phase project to improve this corridor (TR0209 in the City's Capital Facilities and Transportation Improvement Plan), connecting the Olympic Discovery Trail and Port Angeles’ waterfront to the Olympic National Park Visitor Center. Through this project, the City will develop multi-modal connections along Race Street and improve safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, vehicles, and transit users. Phase One construction will occur on Race Street, from the intersection of Race & East 8th Streets to Olympus Avenue. Project enhancements include: Installation of a shared-use trail for pedestrians and other non-motorists Enhancements to pedestrian safety, including ADA ramp and crossing upgrades to reduce crossing times, traffic calming measures, curb extensions, pedestrian lighting, sidewalk widening and access improvements Concurrent water line replacement to upgrade the aging water utility main and connections running within the Race Street right-of-way Placement of stormwater infrastructure and conveyance New landscaping features and pavement |
