Description
Description | The Ragged Lake Transit Centre Expansion and Fleet Electrification project will reduce green house gas (GHG) emissions through the procurement of 60 electric buses with battery packs, associated charging equipment for the electric buses (20 chargers, each with 2 dispensers, 9 chargers, each with 1 pantograph, 6 chargers, each with 3 dispensers), a deep energy retrofit of the existing transit facility (includes 1MW solar PV array) and expansion of the facility to achieve a net-zero standard. To accommodate the 60 new electric buses, a 4,600 m^2 expansion of the existing facility is required. It is expected that the electric buses will be made in Canada. Upgrades to the maintenance facility, including a step down transformer, an electrical distribution panel, 3 mobile chargers and 5 bus access platform systems will be constructed to allow for maintenance of the new electric buses. Additionally, the scope encompasses preliminary work towards constructing a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) including a risk assessment to determine the appropriate size and type of BESS, as well as the design of the system and site preparations. The Ragged Lake Transit Centre Expansion and Fleet Electrification project will improve capacity of public transit infrastructure. Electrifying transit will result in less noise pollution and less tail pipe emissions. The project models GHG leadership, as the battery electric buses will be the first in Atlantic Canada. The addition of solar and storage will make the transit system more resilient. |
